New Delhi: In more embarrassment for Air India, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) chairman Bibek Debroy criticized the Tata-owned airline, saying it was “better before privatisation”.

Taking to Twitter, Debroy complained about the services of Air India after his flight got delayed for several hours.

Tata-owned Air India said flight AI 687 got delayed due to operational reasons.

“Fed up with Air India. Booked on AI 687 to Delhi. Scheduled time of departure 16.35. ETD keeps changing. Now 19.00. No information even now. It was better before privatisation…,” he said.

EAC-PM Chairman Bibek Debroy said he would never travel by Air India flight and also accused the airline staff of repeatedly changing statements.

“This is much worse than pre-privatisation days. No one seems to be responsible. STD changing ever 15 minutes. Staff at counter continuously changing statements. @airindiain,” he said.

He also took a dig at the Tata-owner airline that acquisition of more planes won’t improve service

“Mumbai-Delhi AI 687 Has been hell, not heaven. For four hours at the gate, More delays at this rate, Customer service with a dose of leaven. @airindiain,” Debroy said.

Responding to Debroy, Air India said the flight was delayed due to operational reasons and assured that the airline will take cate of its passengers.

“Please be assured, our team is trying its best to assist all passengers,” Air India tweeted. However, the high-ranking official replied to AI saying the team is not assisting any passengers.

He claimed that the passengers waiting for the flight were angry and suggested that AI should provide tea or coffee to passengers who are waiting for four hours at the airport.

“Do you want me to tweet a video of angry passengers? If they want to assist, I suggest tea/coffee to passengers waiting for 4 hours now. And true information,” he tweeted.
