Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the RBI new data centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Odisha, India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) new data centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute on Sunday. Located at Info Valley-II in Jatni, near Bhubaneswar, the project represents a significant investment of Rs 169 crore aimed at fortifying India’s digital financial landscape.
The sprawling 18.55-acre campus is set to serve as a critical hub for the central bank’s technological operations. According to an official statement, the facility will host essential payment and settlement systems, alongside other key initiatives, to ensure the reliability and efficiency of digital financial services across the country.
Strengthening Financial Infrastructure and Security
The establishment of this data centre is intended to provide a resilient and scalable computing ecosystem for the RBI. By centralising mission-critical systems, the bank aims to create a more secure foundation for India’s rapidly evolving, technology-driven financial sector. Complementing the data centre, the new Cybersecurity Training Institute will focus on research, capacity building, and advanced training in enterprise technology to better equip the financial sector against emerging digital threats.
The site selection for the facility was a strategic decision based on geographical stability. Officials noted that the location was specifically chosen to be away from seismically active zones and high-risk international borders. This careful planning is expected to minimise the facility’s vulnerability to both natural disasters and potential geopolitical risks.
The foundation stone for the project was originally laid on March 22, 2023, by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. The inauguration ceremony was attended by several high-profile dignitaries, including Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, Odisha Governor Brajmohan Ram, and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, alongside other senior leadership figures.
