Virat Kohli created history and broke several records during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) six-wicket victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Shaheed Veer Narayan International Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday (May 14). The star batter made an unbeaten century with a knock of 105 runs in 60 balls in a knock that included 11 boundaries and three sixes.
Kohli’s knock ensured RCB went to the top of the table with their eighth win of the season. This has put them on the cusp of a spot in the playoffs as they aim to become the third team after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI)

Through the course of the knock, Kohli completed 14,000 runs in T20 cricket. He became only the 7th player in history to achieve the feat and the first Indian to achieve the feat. No other Indian player even has more than 13,000 runs so far, with Rohit Sharma (12,491) second on the list.
Moreover, Kohli broke Chris Gayle’s world record and became the quickest player in the history of the sport to reach the huge milestone. The star Indian batter reached the milestone 16 innings quicker than the RCB hall of fame member did.

Meanwhile, this was Kohli’s 9th century in the IPL, which extended his lead as the player with the most centuries in the league’s history. Buttler (7) is second on the list, while KL Rahul and Gayle (6) are third on the list, followed by Sanju Samson (5).
Meanwhile, this was the 10th instance of Kohli scoring a T20 century (9 for RCB + 1 for India). Only three players have previously made double digits of tons in the shortest format of the game. The 37-year-old now has the joint third most centuries in the format alongside David Warner, with only Babar Azam (13) and Gayle (22) ahead of him.
He is the first Indian player to achieve the feat. He went past Abhishek Sharma, who had equaled his record earlier this season.

Moreover, Kohli has hit a century in a run chase in the IPL for the third time, which is the joint most alongside Jos Buttler. Meanwhile, it is the second century against KKR, which is the joint most alongside Buttler. Kohli also joins the former England captain as the second player with multiple centuries against multiple teams. The RCB legend has made two centuries previously against the Gujarat Lions (GL), while Buttler has done it against RCB and KKR.
Meanwhile, it was the ninth instance of Kohli making a 50+ score against the Knight Riders. This is the most by any player in the league’s history, as he broke a three-way tie.

Virat Kohli Crosses 400 Runs
Through the course of the season, Kohli completed 400 runs in the 2026 IPL. He achieved the feat for the 12th season, having previously done so in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025. No other player has even done it 10 times in history.

Kohli’s played his 279th match in the league, which made him the league’s most capped player as he broke a record shared with MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma (278). This was Kohli’s first ton in the league since a century against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2024 at Jaipur.
