MUMBAI, INDIA – The Gujarat Titans defeated Mumbai Indians by three wickets via the Duckworth Lewis method in a final-ball thriller in the Indian Premier League game that was stopped twice due to unseasonal rains in Mumbai. The dramatic victory saw Gujarat Titans rise to the top of the IPL 2025 standings while Mumbai Indians are fourth in the IPL 2025 table.

Th game saw Gujarat Titans end the Mumbai Indians’ streak of six wins on the trot.

What Mumbai need to do for IPL Playoffs spot

Since the IPL 2025 Playoffs cut-off points are yet to be ascertained, with five teams in the IPL playoffs race, it’s possible that four teams will need at least 18 points to qualify. After the defeat to the Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians have 14 points from 12 games. After their narrow defeat to GT, Mumbai still have a final home game at the Wankhede Stadium against Delhi Capitals. They will definitely need to win this one.

One win from two games gets Mumbai to 16 points, which will leave them in a dicey situation. But winning both the remaining games could ascertain a spot in the playoffs for the five-time champions.

What’s interesting is that Mumbai’s last two games are against two teams who are also chasing an IPL playoffs spot.

While Mumbai have played 12 games, all the other playoff contenders have one more game on hand, which makes things tricky for Mumbai Indians.
