President Trump on Friday said he was "being investigated" for firing FBI Director James Comey despite following a Justice Department recommendation to do so.

In May, President Trump sent shockwaves through Washington when he fired FBI Director James Comey.

In one of several morning tweets, Trump denounced the ongoing "witch hunt."

Following Comey's abrupt ouster last month, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to oversee the federal investigation into Russian meddling in last year's election.

Reports emerged this week that Mueller's probe has expanded to include possible obstruction of justice on Trump's part over the firing of Comey, who says the president asked him to "let go" of an FBI investigation into a former aide.
