The United States is working with India to ensure the country’s acceptance into the Nuclear Supplies Group (NSG).
There are currently 48 members and the group controls the export of materials, equipment and technology that could be used to create nuclear weapons.
Three nations, India, Pakistan and Namibia, have all applied to join the elite group.

The United States is working with India to ensure the country’s acceptance into the Nuclear Supplies Group (NSG).
There are currently 48 members and the group controls the export of materials, equipment and technology that could be used to create nuclear weapons.

Donald Trump’s administration has now endorsed India’s attempt to join the organisation and has vowed to work closely with the nation.
"The United States supports India's full membership in the four multilateral export control regimes, and we believe that India is ready for NSG membership," a US State Department spokesperson told PTI.
"We have worked and continue to work closely with our Indian counterparts and the NSG Participating Governments to help advance India's case for membership."
Barack Obama’s administration had tried to help India but there was significant opposition from China.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is set to visit China this week in the hope of securing a ties with the world superpower.
