Will Kamal Haasan revive the movie Marudhanayagam, his Rs 100 crore dream project which was kick started in 1997 and later put in cold storage citing financial crisis?

Versatile Actor – Kamal Haasan

This was a question posed by his ardent fans and was answered by Kamal himself last day. In a radio talk show on the eve of his 60th birthday celebrations, Kamal said the movie can be completed if there is a crowd-funding.

Suggesting the idea, he explained: “I can complete the movie if 10 lakh people could raise the amount contributing Rs 100 per head.” He added that the expected budget to complete the project does not include his remuneration. Kamal reportedly had invested over Rs 7 crore on the project.

Kamal said it is difficult to source money for his dream project, which had invited international attention in October 1997 with its much publicised launch by none other than Queen Elizabeth II. The celebrated launch and the release of the teaser, which alone reportedly costs Rs 1.5crore, was considered as the most expensive Indian film till that date.

When asked why is it difficult to get a producer for Rs 100 crore movie in Tamil, an industry that has witnessed several such big bucks projects, pat came Kamal's reply that his project would be truthfully a Rs 100crore project, not a project with exaggerated budget figures.

Kamal's spokesperson said the actor's remarks on crowd-funding was in reply to a question during the radio interview and no such move has been initiated by him so far.
