New Delhi: The "spectacular performance" by BJP in the Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana would be a trendsetter for elections in other states as the "good days" are on in the country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said on Sunday.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said that people have voted the BJP to power in the two states as they feel that good governance and development is possible only under Modi's leadership.

"The spectacular performance by BJP in Maharastra and Haryana is a 'Ma-Ha' victory (big victory)… The Lok Sabha election message given out by the people was that they want good governance and development… and that is possible only under the leadership of Modi and BJP," Naidu said in a statement here.

The verdict in the two states puts greater responsibility on BJP to enable Maharashtra and Haryana to walk on the path of rapid economic and inclusive development, which is the stated mission of Modi, Naidu said.

"Our political opponents had questioned why the Prime Minister was taking so much interest in Assembly polls. The criticism was primarily borne out of their fear of the growing connect between the prime minister and the people of the country, particularly the youth," he said.

Modi had campaigned extensively in Maharashtra and Haryana only to motivate the people in these two states to vote for development without being influenced by any other considerations, Naidu averred.

"BJP's victory in the two states will further consolidate the perception both within and outside the country that India is the right investment destination under the leadership of Modi," he added.

The electoral successes in Maharashtra and Haryana are yet another validation of the "acchhe din" (good days) in the country, Naidu said, adding that he hoped this trend will continue in the Assembly elections in other states as well.

"I compliment both the state units of Maharashtra and Haryana for the splendid performance under the able guidance of our national president (Amit Shah), who has proved his mettle as a great organiser," Naidu said.

Riding the Modi wave, BJP finished with a tally of 47 seats in Haryana, one more than the required majority in the 90-member Assembly.

In Maharashtra, BJP was on its way to emerging as the single-largest party.
