NAGPUR/NEW DELHI: Nagpur on Saturday registered highest maximum temperature in last 11 years as mercury soared up to 47.3 degrees Celsius, Met officials said.

There is sparse traffic at Rajpath as Delhi sizzles under blistering heat on Saturday.

The previous highest temperature in the city was recorded at 47.7 degrees Celsius on June 4, 2003.

The entire Vidarbha region, which is reeling under intense heat, has witnessed high temperatures hovering from 45 to 47 degrees Celsius in different parts of region.

On the other hand, the national capital continued to sizzle under blistering heat with the maximum temperature on Saturday settling at 44.9 degrees Celsius, a day after the city experienced the hottest day of this summer.

The maximum temperature was five notches above normal and slightly below from Friday's 45 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature breached the 30 degree mark on Saturday as it settled at 30.8 degrees Celsius, three points above normal.

Both these readings were of the Safdarjung observatory, considered to be the official reading for the city.

The maximum temperature at Aaya Nagar in South East Delhi was recorded at 46.5 degrees while it was 46 degrees in the ridge areas.

Hot and dry winds and the blazing sun ensured that Delhiites have to sweat it out if they dared to step out.
