The prominent politico-religious group in Kashmir- Jamaat-e-Islami has asked the tourists visiting Kashmir valley to follow a dress code.

They are warned be away from Skimpy, Skinny clothes while visiting Kashmir valley. The Jamat also warned tourists of an angry reaction if they didn’t not agree to do so.

The Jamaat, one of the biggest religious groups and a constituent of the hard-line Hurriyat faction led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, said today tourists, mostly foreigners, are “seen wandering in shorter mini-skirts and other objectionable dresses openly”.

“It is quite against the local ethos and culture and is not acceptable to the society at all,” “We need no such guests who can become a cause of derailing the society from the right track and spread immorality and immodesty in the name of tourism.” Jamaat spokesperson Zahid Ali said in a statement.

The state government has, however, remained silent on this. Minister of state for tourism Nasir Sogami said he had “no comments to offer”, possibly to avoid argument with the group.
