In what is probably the first of its kind incident, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh government has ordered the weighing of doors of as many as 42,000 toilets that were constructed under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) in Guna district, according to a report by Times of India.

This decision has been taken after a random check found out that most of these doors were violating the prescribed guidelines. The inquiry officer, in this case, was Guna's additional district magistrate (ADM) Niaz Ahmed Khan. He has been given credit for uncovering many scandals and subsequent transfers by peeved bureaucrats.

Talking about this inquiry, Khan said that the government must have suffered a loss of at least Rs 2 crore because of this scam. "As per the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan guidelines weight of a toilet's iron door should be 14 kg. When checked the doors weighed only 4 kg i.e. they saved as much as 10 kg. In total government must have incurred a loss of not less than Rs 2 crore," Khan was quoted as saying in the report. Under the scheme, the government issues Rs 12,000 for each toilet with mandatory guidelines of construction.
