A British court blocked the deportation of nearly 40 Tamil asylum seekers Thursday over fears of torture. Some of the asylum seekers had links to the Tamil Tiger rebels, who were defeated by Sri Lankan government forces in 2009 after more than three decades of civil war.

The US-India Business Council (USIBC), representing 350 global companies investing in India and a score top Indian corporates, gave high marks to Finance Minister P. Chidambaram for steps being taken to consolidate India's fiscal position.
