Public apathy blamed as India crash victim ignored

India is being accused of “shameful apathy” after video footage was released showing a man being ignored for 40 minutes after a road accident that killed his wife and child. The husband cried out for help as vehicles sped past the family until finally a city worker came to his aid.

NEW DELHI: Petrol price was today cut by Re 1 per litre, effective midnight tonight -- the third reduction in rates in one month.

The price cut, which was made possible because of fall in international oil prices, excludes local sales tax or VAT.

A so-called Gang of Eight Senators - four Democrats and four Republicans - is said to have worked out a deal offering undocumented workers a path to citizenship in 13 years. Another bipartisan Gang of Eight in the House is also working out its own separate scheme.

New Delhi/Berlin — Saudi Arabia's new labour policy will affect only illegal immigrants and not genuine workers employed in the Kingdom, India's External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has said.
"Genuine workers don't need to worry. It will impact only those who don't have proper work permit," Khurshid told IANS in the course of a brief chat in Berlin where this correspondent who had travelled with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last week.
