In a surprising archaeological discovery, a 500-year-old Shiva temple has been unearthed in Patna, Bihar’s capital city. The temple, located in Ward No. 54, was found beneath what was long considered a garbage dump. The site, believed to be land once associated with a monastery, has revealed a rich historical and spiritual treasure, sparking immense excitement among locals and visitors alike.
Locals Lead the Discovery and Restoration
Before officials could reach the site, local residents took the initiative to excavate the area. After clearing the debris, they uncovered the structure, cleaned it, and began worshipping at the temple. The temple houses an ancient Shiva Linga and two distinct footprints. According to the locals, the temple appears to be constructed from a special metallic material, with water continuously seeping from its walls.
The temple’s design includes smooth black stonework, adding to its uniqueness and historical charm. As the cleanup progressed, chants of devotion filled the air, and the site quickly transformed into a bustling place of worship.
Historical Significance
The temple is believed to date back to the 15th century, adding to its cultural and archaeological importance. While experts are still working to determine the exact age and origins of the structure, early findings suggest its historical significance. The discovery of the Shiva Linga and ancient footprints has further heightened public interest, with people flocking to the site to witness the marvel and offer prayers.
This isn’t the first time such a discovery has been made in Patna’s older neighborhoods. In the past, remnants of temples have been unearthed from old houses, but this is the first instance where a complete temple-like structure, along with a Shiva Linga, has been found in the Patna City area.
Comparable Discovery in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh
Interestingly, a similar discovery was made earlier in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where a 500-year-old Shiva temple was found after being locked away for 46 years. The temple was uncovered during a raid to address electricity theft, drawing attention to its historical and spiritual value. Located just 1.5 kilometers from the Jama Masjid, the temple had been neglected since the 1978 riots when many Hindus left the area. Locals in Sambhal claimed the temple to be 400-500 years old, with a nearby ancient well further adding to its significance.
Public Interest and Devotional Activities
In Patna, the newly discovered temple has already become a focal point for devotees. Locals have begun performing rituals and prayers at the site, and the discovery has drawn large crowds eager to witness this hidden treasure of history and faith.
