Exit polls have predicted a clear mandate for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). According to the News18 Mega Exit Poll, the National Democratic Alliance could win 355-370 seats, with the BJP alone projected to get 305-315. The News18 survey says the INDIA bloc could end up with 125-140 seats, with Congress accounting for 62-72 seats. The opposition bloc, however, has rejected the projection and says they will win over 295 seats. Voting for the 543 seats of the Lok Sabha took place across the country in seven phases between April 19 and June 1. The campaign was high-pitched and often bitter.

In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP had won 303 seats with PM Narendra Modi winning a second term. The Congress was down to just 52 seats in 2019. The BJP had seen gains in West Bengal and Karnataka in the 2019 polls. With 2024, PM Modi is seeking a historic third term as the Prime Minister of India.

India’s electorate is made up of nearly 97 crore registered voters – largest in the world (49.7 crore males, 47.1 crore females, 82 lakh voters above the age of 85, 2.18 lakh above the age of 100, 48,000 transgender persons, 19.1 lakh service electors, 1.8 crore first time voters and 19.74 crore young voters).
