Gujarat Titans Areadly Hailed As IPL Champs By Fans But It Has Nothing To Do With Cricket

Gujarat Titans will be taking up Rajasthan Royals for the biggest challenge of their debut season during the final match of the Indian Premier League 2022 on Friday. Even though the match seems like a fair contention, Indian cricket fans have already started congratulating the Hardik Pandya-led franchise for winning the title and it has absolutely nothing to do with cricket, their players or even their competition.

The final of the 2022 edition is taking place on the home ground of Gujarat Titans, at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad and in attendance will be the person the stadium was monikered after – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Home Minister, Amit Shah, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and BCCI secretary Jay Shah will also be present, among others from the impressive list of guests for the event.

Over the years, the IPL has developed a bad reputation and rumours of some of the biggest matches being fixed have been afloat ever since the first edition back in 2008. Every now and then, confirmed reports of corruption and spot-fixing also come up, leaving the fans with more and more doubt in their minds.

So when fans learnt that Gujarat’s very own hero Amit Shah will be attending the event, most of them already started speculating that the match-fixers and the supposed “script-writers” of the league will make sure that the Gujarat franchise wins.

All speculations aside, Pandya’s Titans have looked like the team to beat ever since they began their IPL 2022 campaign. Having won 10 out of their 14 regular season matches and with 20 points in their bank, the GT were at the top of the IPL points table and qualified for the playoffs as the number one seed.

They have even defeated their IPL 2022 finals competition, the Rajasthan Royals, once before in Qualifier 1 of this year’s playoffs, while winning the match by seven wickets and three deliveries left to go.

If Pandya and Co do manage to win the title, this would only be the second time in IPL history that a franchise will be winning the whole tournament in their debut year. The first time it happened was obviously in the very first season of the league when, ironically, the Rajasthan Royals had won their first and only championship against Chennai Super Kings.
