Streatham terror attack: Several stabbed and man shot dead in London

FEBRUARY 2, 2020

Several people have been stabbed in Streatham, south London, and a man has been shot dead by police, in what they describe as a “terrorist-related” incident.

Metropolitan Police tweeted: “A man has been shot by armed officers in Streatham. At this stage it is believed a number of people have been stabbed.

“The circumstances are being assessed; the incident has been declared as terrorist-related.”

Images show ambulances and police cars on Streatham High Road and people on social media said helicopters were circling overhead.

Sky’s home affairs correspondent Mark White said: “Police say that a number of people have been stabbed. I was told perhaps as many as three people have been stabbed. No exact confirmation on the numbers.

“The man shot by police officers we understand has died although that has not been confirmed by the police at this stage.

“The information that I’ve got is that something drew the attention of the armed police who were at the scene to this man in terms of the threat level after he was shot.

“Now this may indicate this individual may have been wearing something – we know of course with the most recent attack at London Bridge, the terrorist who attacked and stabbed people there was wearing a fake suicide vest.”

Metropolitan Police have urged people to avoid the area and London Ambulance Service said they had a “number of resources” at the scene.
