Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) responded on Friday to chants of “AOC sucks” that broke out at President Trump’s rally in Michigan a day earlier, saying the president just want another woman to “vilify.”
“He doesn’t have another woman — Hillary Clinton or whoever else — to vilify anymore so they need to find another woman to kind of prop up and become a lightning rod,” the rookie lawmaker said.
Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks came after the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., mocked the congresswoman at a rally for his father in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Thursday.
“Think about the fact that every mainstream, leading Democratic contender is taking the advice of a freshman congresswoman who three weeks ago didn’t know the three branches of government,” Donald Trump Jr. said. “I don’t know about you guys, but that’s pretty scary.”
After his remark, the crowd broke into the “AOC sucks” chant.
“You guys, you’re not very nice,” Trump Jr. responded. “And neither is what that policy would do to this country.”

Trump Jr. was mocking Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, a resolution she introduced earlier this year with Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.). It seeks to create an economy based on 100 percent renewable energy. It was blocked in the Senate earlier this week.
The progressive firebrand has become a key target for conservatives, who have compared her to Trump for her social media use and her direct responses to her critics and the media.
The 29-year-old lawmaker, who became the youngest women ever elected to Congress last November, is the most frequently mentioned Democrat on Fox News so far this year — more than all of the potential Democrats in the 2020 presidential race.
