CHRISTCHURCH – New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has received death threats on social media.
An image of a gun was sent to Ardern two days ago with the caption, “you are next”.
Another was posted to both the Prime Minister and police saying, “next it’s you”.
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office said the social media company “seems to have algorithms for everything else and they owe the public a duty of care”.
The Twitter account was suspended around 4pm on Friday.
The suspended account was loaded with anti-Islamic, white supremacist hate speech.
Newshub has reported the tweet to police and the Prime Minister’s Office.
The alleged Christchurch shooter, a 28-year-old Australian national, is a suspected white supremacist, who released a racist manifesto ahead of the 15 March attack where he tried to justify his actions against Muslims.
