KOLKATA – Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in a fairly one-sided affair at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.

With the win Sunrisers Hyderabad maintained their unbeaten streak in this season of the Indian Premier League as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 5 wickets at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.

Chasing 139 for victory, the Sunrisers rode on captain Kane Williamson's 50 and Shakib Al Hasan's 27 to get close to te the target, but it was Yusuf Psathan who struck a six to win the game for his team with with one over to spare.

Williamson's innings was laced with 4 fours and one six while Shakib hit 2 fours and a six during his knock as the duo shared 59-run stand for the fourth wicket to guide their team.

"Obviously nice to win three in a row, and this surface required some adapting, but the real highlight was our fielding tonight," Hyderabad captain Williamson said at the post match presentation.

"Bowlers have executed their skills really well, but we know every game is tough, so look to continue doing that. There wasn't a lot of turn, and Kolkata are a strong team but it was nice to go over the line in this city," he added.

Billy Stanlake was adjudged as the the Man-of-the-Match for his crucial wickets of Nitish Rana and Russell.

"It's nice to get out there and take a few wickets. My job is simple, to bowl quick and be aggressive. The bounce was tennis-balley, and the wickets of Rana and Russell were only thanks to two great catches. Think I should buy Manish some beers after this," he said after receiving the award.

Earlier, India pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar took three wickets as Sunrisers made the most of hour-long rain break and some excellent catching by Manish Pandey to restrict the Knight Riders to 138/8 in 20 overs.

Kumar (3/26) — returning to the team after recovering from a sore back — was ably supported by pacer Billy Stanlake (2/21) and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (2/21) also taking two wickets.

Highly-rated leg-spinner Rashid Khan went wicketless, leaking 31 runs.

Former KKR batsman Pandey took two outstanding catches to send Nitish Rana (18; 16b 2×4 1×6) and Andre Russell (9; 5b 0x4 1×6) — who hit a 36-ball 88 in the last game — back in the hut as SRH bowlers reined in after skies opened up to halt play for 58 minutes when KKR were going steady at 52/1.

For KKR, Sunil Narine picked up 2 wickets while Kuldeep Yadav, Mitchell Johnson and Piyush Chawla all getting one wicket each.

KKR captain Dinesh Karthik was not happy with his batsman. When asked about the reason to alter his batting line-up and not opting to open with Narine, he said, "We want our batting order to have some novelty. We sent Narine in because they were using a left-arm spinner that time. I was thinking 160-170 would be a good target, but didn't happen."

"Sunrisers have some good bowlers, and on a given day you have to gauge who isn't bowling well and then go after him. We'll have to turnaround quickly," he added.

For the hosts, opener Chris Lynn (49; 34b 7×4 1×6) was the top-scorer as skipper Dinesh Karthik laboured to a 27-ball 29 hitting two fours and a six.

SRH registered its third straight win in the season to consolidate their position at the top of the points table while KKR suffered its second successive defeat and are now placed fourth.
