The former director of the Office of Government Ethics ripped President Trump early Sunday as a "wannabe autocrat" after the president shared an image that appeared to show "CNN's blood on the sole of his show."

"The wannabe autocrat just retweeted an image depicting CNN's blood on the sole of his shoe," Walter Shaub, a frequent critic of Trump, tweeted.

"These colicky tweets reveal he's hurting this weekend. They make him (and our country) look weak."

Trump earlier Sunday morning retweeted a post with an image of him in a limousine and said "WINNING" on the top. One of Trump's shoes has a dark stain on its sole and the letters "CNN" can be seen.

Shaub frequently criticizes the president for his actions and his tweets.

Trump often blasts the media and frequently targets CNN for its reporting on him and his administration, referring to negative coverage as "fake news."

Earlier this year, Trump tweeted a modified video of a wrestling match between himself and CNN. The video appeared to show Trump attacking and subduing a figure whose face was obscured by a CNN logo.
