Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) is requesting documents on the potential involvement of President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner in the firings of former FBI Director James Comey and former national security advisor Michael Flynn.
Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, sent a letter on Wednesday to White House counsel Donald McGahn, saying she wants him to turn over details on Kushner by Nov. 27.
"In order to conduct a fair, balanced and thorough investigation the committee needs to have the facts and the requested documents. This is also important for the committee's upcoming questioning of Mr. Kushner," Feinstein wrote in the letter.
A spokesman for Feinstein clarified that a sit-down between the committee and Kushner has been requested, but not set up yet.
Feinstein, who is up for reelection in 2018 and facing a challenge from the left, wants any documents tied to Comey and Flynn's firing that Kushner sent, received or reviewed.
She also wants any documents regarding a mid-2016 meeting at Trump Tower with a Russian lawyer, which was attended by Kushner, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Donald Trump Jr.
Feinstein is also requesting any documents about Trump Jr.'s public statements.
Feinstein's letter to the White House was one of four she sent on Wednesday.
She's also requesting Roger Stone, a longtime friend and informal campaign adviser to President Trump, and Felix Sater, a Russian-born developer, agree to meet with the Judiciary Committee and turn over documents tied to the 2016 election and Russia.
Feinstein wants Stone to hand over any documents linked to efforts to get or share "hacked" emails belonging to the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Hillary Clinton or her 2016 presidential campaign, including former Clinton campaign chief John Podesta.
Feinstein also wants any communications Stone had with Russian officials or associates about the 2016 election, and any communications with the Trump organization or the Trump campaign about the election.
Feinstein's letters mark the second tranche of requests she has sent since signaling that Democrats on the Judiciary Committee would push ahead with their own investigation into Trump, Comey and Russia's election interference amid an apparent split with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman of the committee.
The fracture of what had been a bipartisan probe appears to spawn out of a GOP push to revisit Obama-era scandals and dig into a controversial opposition research dossier compiled on Trump during the campaign. Democrats argue the committee should be focused on Russia's election interference and any potential collusion.
Feinstein sent her first spate of requests late last month, including asking for more details on Comey's firing.
