A lawyer for President Trump on Wednesday said Trump did not see emails detailing Donald Trump Jr.'s conversations about setting up a meeting with a Russian lawyer until his son released them on Tuesday.
"The president was not aware and did not attend this meeting," Jay Sekulow said on NBC's "Today" show. "And was only made aware of the email, then this chain of emails, which he only saw yesterday as it was released, he was made aware of it just, in the last– really, very, very recently, by his lawyers."
Sekulow added that the legal team met with the president "days ago."
During an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America" early Wednesday, Sekulow reiterated that the president was not "aware of the meeting" and did not "participate" in it.
Trump Jr. on Tuesday released a chain of emails detailing his conversations about setting up a meeting with a Russian lawyer who had offered compromising information on Hillary Clinton.
The information "would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father," read one of the emails from Rob Goldstone, who acted as an intermediary to set up the meeting.
"This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump," wrote Goldstone.
