Relaince Jio free services offer for the next three months has led to a massive rush with people thronging Reliance Digital and other telecom stores, but not everyone's been able to get a sim.
The Reliance Jio 'Free Welcome Offer' was launched on Monday September 6th for free services up till December 31st after which the services turn paid.{blurb}To get a SIM card all you need is an ID proof, address proof and passport photographs and head to the nearest telelcom store. But turns out you need a couple of weeks and a lot of patience as well.
Long queues are visible in stores, with people eagerly waiting to get a sim and make the most of the free services, reports say. According to reports by India Today Tech from a Reliance Digital Store in a mall in Noida, thousands of people have already registered for Jio sim card, but more people are waiting for their turn. {blurb}"4,600 people have registered till Sept 9. More are coming every minute," was a response from the store attendant.
He added saying that there were 150 sims available this morning. The store was currently registering for September 12th.
Doing a rough calculation, this translates to about 8 people chasing one Jio SIM card per day. And still not everyone would get a Jio SIM card by September 9th. Reports from another mall in Noida revealed that SIM card registrations were booked until October 26th.
Jio has plans both for prepaid and postpaid services starting at Rs 19 and Rs 149, respectively.
Mukesh Ambani revealed the Jio project on Friday at the shareholder's AGM where he announced that voice calling and national roaming would be free of charge. He also said that Jio would offer data rates at 1/10th of market rates, cheapest in the world. According to him, consumers can avail the SIM card provided they have a 4G compatible phone.
