Kolkata: A 6.8 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday hit Myanmar with tremors being felt in east and northeast India.

Kolkata: A 6.8 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday hit Myanmar with tremors being felt in east and northeast India.

According to United States Geological Survey, the epicentre of the quake is 25km West of Chauk in Burma.

According to National Centre for Seismology, a unit of Ministry of Earth Sciences, the quake occurred at 4:04 PM at a depth of 58 kms.

Tremors were felt in Bihar, West Bengal and northeastern states in India, spreading panic among people.

There were no immediate reports of any loss of life and property.

The northeast is one of the most earthquake prone regions in the world.
