The year 2016 belongs to Bihari actors

While MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is the most awaited film of the year, Aligarh was one of the highly acclaimed movies in 2016 and Nil Batey Sannata was positively received by the audiences. But what's common among these films? Well, the lead actors of all these films are from Bihar. In the film industry, where carving a niche without a godfather is considered next to impossible, some of the Bihari actors have made their presence felt with sheer determination and hard work. And going by the box office report and trade analysis, 2016 is going to be the year of Bihari talent.

Here are six actors from Bihar who have made it big in Bollywood

  1. Sushant Singh Rajput: His journey so far is akin to that of superstar Shah Rukh Khan. After rising to fame with the popular TV serial Pavitra Rishta, Sushant Singh Rajput won many dance reality shows before making a sensational debut on big screen with Kai Po Che in 2013. Though Sushant does not have many friends in Bollywood and is hardly seen in filmy parties and award shows, he has an ardent fan following. The boy from Patna was fantastic in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy and has already created a buzz with the trailer of his upcoming biopic on Indian cricket captain, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.

  1. Manoj Bajpayee: Describing his acting talent in words is really tough. Despite getting rejected thrice by the National School of Drama, the actor made the film industry respect him with some fine performances. From an underworld don in Satya to an honest cop in Shool, from a war prisoner in 1971 to a shrewd politician in Rajneeti, Bajpayee has portrayed them all on the big screen with aplomb. The recipient of two National Awards and two Filmfare Awards, Bajpayee started his career with the famous TV serial Swabhimaan before shining in Bollywood. His recent releases Aligarh and Budhia Singh: Born to Run won accolades from critics. However, the actor from Motihari in Bihar is still hungry for more meaty roles.

  1. Swara Bhaskar: Born to a Bihari mother, Swara got the accent perfectly in Tanu Weds Manu and Raanjhanaa that got her Filmfare nominations. However, her first solo film Nil Battey Sannata where she played a high school drop-out household maid and single mother established Swara's versatility. From Yash Raj Films to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Swara has worked with big names in the industry and is currently hosting Doordarshan's popular show Rangoli. She is also quite expressive about social issues and is very active on social media.

  1. Pankaj Tripathi: Famous as Sultan Qureshi of Gangs of Wasseypur, this actor was born in Bihar's Gopalganj where people do not have televisions in their home. The nearest cinema hall is said to be 25 kilometres away from his home. However, his love for acting and talent has made him one of the most sought actors for desi roles. He was last seen as a teacher in Nil Battey Sannata and Shah Rukh's associate in Dilwale.

  1. Narendra Jha: This actor from Madhubani is popular for playing Shahid Kapoor's father in Haider. Since then he has been part of many films, including Ghayal Once Again, Shorgul and Mohenjo Daro. His next film, Iqbal My Father, is all set for release.

  1. Shatrughan Sinha: The list would be incomplete without the mention of Shatrughan Sinha. The first Bihari Babu of Bollywood rose to fame with numerous hits including Kaalicharan, Mere Apne, Gautam Govinda and Kranti before joining politics. His professional rivalry with superstar Amitabh Bachchan was quite famous and it was said Sinha almost outshone Bachchan in films they did together like Kala Patthar, Shaan, Naseeb and Dostana.
