MUMBAI – Your Monday morning blues can get a lot worse with heavy rain forecast for the next 48 hours. With offices and schools shut, the city survived Sunday. Trains were running only a little behind schedule and as the rain eased, flooding was limited.

But all this could change overnight if it pours, and it could.
“At present, the low pressure over the northern part of the Arabian Sea is bringing rain to Mumbai, Goa and the Konkan areas. After this system weakens, the intensity of the rain will decrease. We expect this to take 48 hours,” said Ajay Kumar, western region director, India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Intermittent rain will occur in the city and suburbs on Monday, and heavy spells are likely in some areas for the next 24 hours, the IMD said.
On Sunday, Colaba recorded 32.4mm of rain between 8.30am and 8.30pm and Santacruz 48.7mm.
Although officials denied it, commuters said trains on the Central Railway were running 10-15 minutes late. The delays, however, were not so bad on the Western Railway.
After the scorching heat of the past month, residents welcomed the drop in temperatures. The maximum temperature recorded at Santacruz was 27.8 degrees Celsius; it was 27.5 degrees Celsius at Colaba.
The deluge during the past couple of days in Mumbai caused the collapse a slab on Saturday night at an under-construction building in Behrampada, Bandra (East) killing two people and injuring four. The condition of those injured is said to be stable.
