NEW DELHI – Two days after a farmer hanged himself at his rally in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal today apologized for not stopping his speech and said, "I apologise if I hurt anyone."

Mr Kejriwal, who has been widely criticized over the past two days, said: "I think I should not have made a speech at that time."

Gajendra Singh, a 42-year-old farmer from Rajasthan, climbed a tree and hanged himself after a 25-minute drama during which no AAP volunteer or policeman was seen stopping him.

Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders were on stage when the man tied a noose out of his white scarf and stepped off a branch. After he was taken to hospital, Mr Kejriwal made a 10-minute speech in which he blamed the Delhi police for doing nothing to save Gajendra.
