The Telangana Police have registered a against Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1.10 crores by promising an assembly ticket to a local leader ahead of last year's state elections in Khammam, Telangana.

Ms Chowdhury says that these allegations are 'bizarre.' She told NDTV, "The high court is following the process. I will fight it legally."

Police sources say the 60-year-old Congress lawmaker allegedly took the money from tribal candidate and local leader Dr Ramjee Naik with the promise of a ticket to Wyra assembly seat, which was not given to him.

The case was registered following an order by High Court in Hyderabad on the complaint by Dr Naik's wife, B Kalavati, who claims that Mrs Chowdhury took the money from her husband.

The FIR, which was registered on March 16, mentions the date of occurrence as "30th May 2013."

Mrs Kalavati alleges that her late husband died under pressure of repaying debts that they had incurred to pay Rs. 1.10 crores to Ms Chowdhury.
