Thane: While winding up the Bharatiya Janata Party's campaign for the state elections in Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally in Thane accused the Congress and the NCP of looting Maharashtra and destroying its economy.
"Did anyone imagine that a state that leads economy of the nation, can also be destroyed? But look at the power of Congress and NCP," said the PM on Sunday
Monday is the last day of campaigning for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. Maharashtra has been a special focus of both the BJP and the Congress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed rallies in Borivali, Thane, Loha, Tuljapur and Pandharpur. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi also campaigned in Nagpur and Buldhana.
The PM made several scathing attacks on the NCP and the Congress in his various rallies. Addressing a poll rally at Pandharpur town in Maharashtra's Solapur district, he said, "If they (NCP) are voted to power once again, they will now increase their corruption 15 times." Modi also did not spare the Congress, saying he is keeping a watchful eye on the country's coffers sitting at the Centre, and won't let any "panja" (Congress' party symbol 'hand') touch the treasury.
The year 2014 marks the end of Congress and NCP era in the state, he said. Charging that the Congress and the NCP together "destroyed" the state during their rule, the Prime Minister urged the people to "wipe" out both parties from state politics.
"Tomorrow is the final day of campaigning. And this year marks the end of Congress and their allies. They think they are so powerful that they can keep people in their pockets and dream of being voted to power again and again. But they should know when the mood of public changes, no one will be spared," Modi said.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi also attacked the ruling BJP government while addressing a rally in Nagpur.
"Maharashtra is ahead of Gujarat," Rahul said while addressing a poll rally in Maharashtra's Nagpur district. "They say we haven't done any work during 60 years. Had that been the case, would the state have made the strides it has made," he said.
"It is people who make the country. It is not the leader but people who do the work," he said. Due to our policies, 30 lakh people will get jobs, Rahul said, citing achievements of UPA. He also flayed the Modi government for not keeping the poll promise to bring back black money stashed in foreign havens to India within 100 days of coming to power.
JDS leader Deve Gowda, and JDU leaders Sharad Yadav and Nitish Kumar are campaigning for INLD in Gurgaon- this after INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala was sent back to jail on Saturday for misusing his medical bail.
