Shillong: Christians in Meghalaya Sunday joined their brethren the world over in celebrating Easter.

Believers throngeed Cathedrals and other churches in the Christian-majority state for the special mass and other celebratory events.

It was a day of coloured Easter eggs and buns all over the state. Archbishop of Shillong Rev. Dominic Jala presided over the Easter mass at the Grotto Chapel in the Mary Help of Christians Cathedral here.

Pascal commemoration in many parishes was marked with candlelight processions and baptism of new-born.

In his message, Governor K.K. Paul said Easter is a festival of hope, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and it signals the coming of Spring.

"Easter inspires people all over the world to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and forgiveness," Paul said while wishing the people of Meghalaya and to the Christian community a holy Easter.

In his Easter greetings, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said: "May the promise of Easter fill our hearts with the spirit of love and peace and hope for salvation."
