Washington — The Indian Medical Association of New England (IMANE) plans to organise a collaborative health expo that will bring various hospital and health care providers together with the Indian community, according to its newly elected president Manju Sheth.

The group will also seek to increase membership through greater outreach to Indian−American physicians in New England, a region in northeastern United States consisting of the six states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

"Community service is a very important mission of IMANE and I am hoping that we can serve our wonderful community in multiple ways, including educating them about health issues that are especially prevalent in the Indian population," said Sheth after her election in Boston last week.

Her goals for the group in the coming year include strengthening ties with the research and academic medical community, and deepening IMANE's many charitable, social and professional activities, Sheth said.

"I am looking forward to a great year of service," added Sheth, who works at Beverly Hospital in Danvers, Massachusetts, and specializes in internal medicine.

At its 34th Annual Meeting in Boston last week, the organization for medical professionals of Indian origin in New England, also elected the group's 2013 Executive Committee, including Seema Arora as secretary and Sapna Aggarwal as treasurer.

Sheth, Arora and Aggarwal, along with 2012 President Sucheta Doshi and five members at large will form IMANE's Executive Committee in the coming year. The members at large include Srilatha Kodali, Anita Vanka, Suresh Reddy, Subha Thiagarajan and Sameer Kapasi.

All of IMANE's 2013 officers will begin their terms of service on Jan 1.

Founded in 1978, Waltham, Massachusetts based IMANE organizes and supports numerous professional and social activities for the benefit of its members and the communities they serve.
