Gurgaon — Farmers across Haryana along with India Against Corruption (IAC) activist Arvind Kejriwal demanded the cancellation of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, at a mahapanchayat meet at Manesar Tuesday.

The mahapanchayat was held under the leadership of retired IAS officer R.C. Rao.

The mahapanchayat highlighted the land acquisition policy and said that it was never in favour of land owning farmers. They sought IAC's support to raise the issue nationally.

IAC activist Arvind Kejriwal called Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda an "agent" of property dealers.

Kejriwal challenged the integrity of former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala on corruption and said that he has assets worth over Rs.1,400 crore across the country.

The mahapanchayat demanded the inclusion of representatives of farmers in the making of a new land acquisition law.

In Manesar region, villagers are critical of manner in which the state government had been passing acquired land to private builders for developing townships and colonies.

The region has over 600 acres of land acquired by the state government that is under litigation.
