The 11 people arrested in the Karnataka terror attack plot had been discovered using Skype as their calling tool to Saudi Arabia for contacting their Kingpins . They had also made video calls using laptops and smart phones since calling on internet is cost effective.

The DRDO employee who was arrested in this case is a well educated person. The police department had also traced that these calls and messages sent by them contained terrorist activities and about plots to kill influential individuals in Karnataka. Only a trained individual can plan attacks like these.

Police say the arrested men had plans to kill Dharwad MP Prahlad Joshi, MLC and newspaper baron Vijay Sankeshwar and journalists Vishveshwar Bhat and Prathap Simha. The police feel the suspects conducted a research of vital buildings such as Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha. The laptops , phones and hard disks of the accused were seized by the police. Skype calls were made also for a reason that calls on internet are difficult to trace.

The journalist was planned to be killed along with his editor because he had written a book in Kannada "Narendra Modi – Yaaru Thuliyada Haadi" (Narendra Modi – The Untrodden Road) in 2008. "A laptop seized from a suspect contains this book and a picture of Simha interviewing Modi," a senior police officer said. When contacted, Simha said: "I have also written a book on Muhammed Ali Jinnah in Kannada."
