Not to be surprised and as expected the former Finance Minister and the UPA Presidential Nominee Pranab Mukherjee won the Presidential Election amidst high political drama. But to everyone’s surprise Mukherjee has won defeating the BJP Nominee PA Sangma with 70% majority.

Not to be surprised and as expected the former Finance Minister and the UPA Presidential Nominee Pranab Mukherjee won the Presidential Election amidst high political drama. But to everyone’s surprise Mukherjee has won defeating the BJP Nominee PA Sangma with 70% majority.
"I declare that Shri Pranab Mukherjee has been duly elected to the office of President of India," Returning Officer and Rajya Sabha Secretary General K Agnihotri declared the result. After the declaration Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi congratulated him. Trinamool Congress Chief and Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee who reluctantly supported Mukherjee also called last evening to congratulate him for him victory. She also promised to attend the swearing ceremony which is going to happen on July 25.
Pranab Mukherjee will be escorted to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan on Wednesday bidding farewell to the current Pratibha Patil and later the swearing in ceremony continues. In a brief comments speaking to the media Mukherjee said “I thank all the people of India for choosing me as the President I pledge to protect, defend and preserve" the Constitution. "I will try to justify in a modest way as I can to be trustworthy." he added.
