Thisara Perera's hat-trick inspired Sri Lanka to a 44-run victory over Pakistan in the fourth one-day international in Colombo on Saturday.

Man-of-the-match Perera took 4-42 as he orchestrated an astonishing Pakistan collapse, who fell from 2-166 at one stage to be all out for 199.

Six Pakistan batsmen scored ducks as Perera ripped through the visitors' innings.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first, reaching a total of 8-243 from their 50 overs on the back of a 130-ball 97 from Kumar Sangakkara.

In reply, Pakistan looked to be cruising as opener Azhar Ali (81 not out) and Misbah-ul-Haq (53) put on 113 to set them on their way towards victory.

But Perera, who took a career-best 6-44 in the second match of the series, swung the game in Sri Lanka's favour when he dismissed Younus Khan, Shahid Afridi and Sarfraz Ahmed from consecutive balls during the 41st over.

The visitors lost 7-13 at one point and were eventually bowled out for 199 in the 45th over.

The result means Sri Lanka take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Pakistan took the opening game by six wickets, while Sri Lanka registered a 76-run win in the second.

The third one-day international was abandoned on Wednesday due to rain in Colombo.
