With the countdown for the Presidential Elections beginning, veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader LK Advani is expected to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithha on Thursday to seek her support for APJ Abdul Kalam’s candidature for the highest post.

The meeting assumes great significance as the AIADMK chief along with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had last month pitched for former Lok Sabha speaker PA Sangma as their preferred presidential candidate.  Tribal leader Sangma had last week met Advani seeking his support for his candidature as President.

Advani is also expected to seek support from the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for BJP leader Jaswant Singh, who on Tuesday met Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav triggering speculation within the saffron party that he could lobbying for the Vice-President's post.

Singh had taken the media by surprise when he turned up at Yadav's residence at a time when the SP chief was playing host to yoga guru Baba Ramdev. He spent some moments with Yadav and had a one-on-one chat with him.  Mamata-Mulayam block sprang up a surprise yesterday by proposing three new names for President at a joint press conference in front of SP chief’s residence. The names include former president APJ Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and former speaker Somnath Chatterjee.
