PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Pakistani security officials say a roadside bomb targeting a vehicle carrying police has killed one of them in the country's northwest.

No group has claimed responsibility, but the Pakistani branch of the Taliban often targets police, military troops and other security forces.

Police officer Javed Khan says 12 civilians and five police officers were also wounded in Saturday's attack in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

He says the officers were escorting a prison van, but no prisoner was hurt.
