After presenting his maiden Rail Budget, Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi told a customary press conference said that the decision to hike passenger fares was imperative.“The Railways was in big mess. I have pulled it out of ICU,” Trivedi said.
He said that it is high time that steps be taken for incremental growth of the Railways. The minister said that the decision of hiking passenger fares was his own and he takes “full responsibility” for this. Trivedi justified the hike in the passenger fares by saying that revenue was needed to upgrade the safety of the Railways. He said, “Rail safety had given me sleepless nights. You can’t have the best of all the things at one go”.
