NEW DELHI: A strong 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck close to the Indian capital on Monday, with powerful tremors shaking buildings and sending frightened residents scurrying into the streets.
There was no immediate evidence of any damage in the centre of the city, or elsewhere.
The epicentre of the earthquake was located just 48 kilometres (30 miles) northwest of New Delhi at a depth of 19.1 kilometres, according to the US Geological Survey.
New Delhi regularly experiences minor tremors, but usually from distant earthquakes in remote areas of the Himalayas. (AFP)
