Scorecard:  Australia 288-5 (M Hussey 59, Forrest 52) beat India 178 (Dhoni 56, Hilfenhaus 5-33) by 110 runs

Australia bounced back from their defeat to Sri Lanka by thrashing India by 110 runs in a comprehensive performance in the latest Commonwealth Bank Series One-Day International in Brisbane.

Half-centuries from Michael Hussey and Peter Forrest saw Australia score an imposing 288 for five and India were then blown away, dismissed for 178 as Ben Hilfenhaus took five for 33.

Brett Lee also returned three for 49 as Australia moved back to the top of the table and put themselves in with a strong chance of making the finals in March.

Australia made a good start as openers Matthew Wade (45) and David Warner (43) put on 70 for the first wicket and the runs continued to flow once they and Ricky Ponting (7) fell.

Hussey scored 59 in 52 balls and Forrest 52 in 71 deliveries as the pair put on exactly 100 for the fourth wicket to set Australia up for a flying finish to their innings, which was supplied by David Hussey (26 not out in 20 balls) and Daniel Christian (30 not out in 18).

Irfan Pathan took three for 61 with the wickets of Warner, Forrest and Hussey.

India, however, were quickly in trouble as they slipped to 82 for five in reply. Lee had Gautam Gambhir (5) and Rohit Sharma (0) both caught behind by Wade, Hilfenhaus removed Sachin Tendulkar (3) and Virat Kohli (12) and Suresh Raina was caught by Wade off Christian for 28.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni held India's innings together with a battling 56 in 84 deliveries but even his efforts were unable to get his side back into the game.

Ravindra Jadeja (18), Pathan (19), Ranganath Vinay Kumar (6) and Zaheer Khan (9) all lost their wickets as India were bowled out in 43.3 overs.

Hilfenhaus gained his five-wicket haul by having Dhoni caught by Christian, and both Pathan and Zaheer caught by Wade.

India play Sri Lanka in Brisbane on Tuesday (21st February).
