Seated alongside US President Donald Trump at the G7 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday delivered a pointed message on the growing trust deficit in international relations, arguing that the world’s biggest challenge today is not a lack of resources but a lack of trust between nations.

Addressing the Outreach Session on “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity” in Evian, Modi said global cooperation was being undermined by narrow national interests, even as countries face increasingly interconnected challenges ranging from energy and food security to technology and economic stability.

“Today, the world does not suffer from a shortage of resources; it suffers from a shortage of trust. And the future of our partnerships depends on building this trust,” the prime minister said.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
