How Vijay manages his fortune?
With TVK emerging as the single largest party in Tamil Nadu’s 2026 assembly elections, the financial profile of its founder and chief C. Joseph Vijay, declared in a 27-page affidavit filed with the Election Commission of India on March 30, 2026, has come under sharp focus.
Vijay’s declared net worth is Rs 624 crore. His movable assets stand at Rs 404 crore and immovable assets at Rs 220 crore. His declared income for FY 2024-25 was Rs 184.53 crore, sourced from self-employment, rental income, and interest earnings.
The Rs 213 crore savings account
The single most striking figure in the affidavit is a balance of Rs 213.36 crore sitting in one savings account at the Indian Overseas Bank’s Saligramam branch, as on March 27, 2026. This is not a structured investment or a market-linked product, it is a regular savings account, and it accounts for more than a third of his entire declared net worth.
Fixed deposits: Rs 100 crore across four banks
Beyond the IOB savings account, Vijay has declared fixed deposits totalling Rs 100 crore across four banks:
- Axis Bank, Indira Nagar branch: Rs 40 crore
- Indian Overseas Bank, Kodambakkam branch: Rs 25 crore
- HDFC Bank, Besant Nagar branch: Rs 20 crore
- State Bank of India, Shastri Nagar branch: Rs 15 crore
Combined with the IOB savings balance, over Rs 313 crore of his declared wealth sits in bank deposits, guaranteed-return instruments with no market risk.
Equity holdings: Rs 19.37 lakh
His stock market exposure is minimal. The affidavit, as archived by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), declares shares in Jaya Nagar Property Pvt Ltd valued at Rs 19.03 lakh, Indian Overseas Bank shares worth Rs 9,600, and Sun Paper Mill Ltd shares worth Rs 25,000, a combined equity holding of Rs 19.37 lakh, or less than 0.04 percent of his declared net worth. No mutual funds, bonds, or debentures are declared.
Vijay property and real estate assets
Vijay’s immovable assets of Rs 220 crore (current market value) are spread across four categories:
Residential properties in Neelankarai, Saligramam, Mylapore, Egmore, and adjoining localities, valued at approximately Rs 115 crore across ten properties.
Commercial properties in Parivakkam, Thyagaraya Nagar, Sholinganallur, and Koppur, valued at approximately Rs 82.8 crore. The largest single commercial asset is a 2.30-acre property in Koppur village, purchased in November 2023 for Rs 35.81 crore.

Agricultural land, two plots of 0.25 acres each in Wilpatti village, Kodaikanal, purchased in 1997 for Rs 15,000 each, now declared at Rs 10 lakh each.
Rental income from these properties is declared as an active income source for FY 2024-25. Vijay is also listed in the affidavit as Managing Director of Jaya Nagar Property Private Limited, a formal real estate business interest beyond his personal holdings.

Pending income tax disputes
The affidavit discloses four pending Income Tax demands. A Rs 1.50 crore penalty for AY 2015-16 under Section 271AAB(1), linked to alleged concealment connected to his film Puli, was upheld by the Madras High Court in February 2026 on limitation grounds, with liberty granted to appeal to the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal.
Additional outstanding demands include Rs 91.36 lakh for AY 2011-12, Rs 88.97 lakh for AY 2015-16, and Rs 14.13 lakh for AY 2022-23, the last of which is under appeal. These demands arose from a 2015 Income Tax search, following which Vijay filed revised returns and paid taxes; the penalties have persisted through subsequent legal proceedings.
