The D.M.V. region is seeing a bump in novel coronavirus cases.

At the end of the week, the region’s case numbers were the highest in a month.

On Sunday alone, D.C. reported 66 new cases.

Maryland saw 562 new cases.

And Virginia had 811 new cases.

The change comes a couple of weeks after a press conference in the White House’s Rose Garden where there were few masks and little social distancing.

Several officials who attended the press conference later tested positive for COVID-19.

On Friday, D.C. leaders set up a free COVID-19 testing site outside the White House, along Black Lives Matter Plaza.

It is not clear if the outbreak at the White House had a major role in the regional increase in COVID-19 cases or if just more people have been getting tested.

D.C.’s Judiciary Square testing site had long lines that wrapped halfway around the National Building Museum. It took some people four days to get their test results back.
