WASHINGTON, D.C. – The flu is on the rise across the country, and the flu season is showing no signs of slowing down in the D.C. area.

Parts of the region have seen high levels of the flu being reported for as many as 10 weeks.

While it does not appear the flu is on a major spike in the DMV, it is consistently being reported at increased numbers.

The latest weekly reports show Maryland and Virginia are reporting at their highest levels called “widespread flu.”

The widespread category means the state have had outbreaks or increases in at least half of the state.

D.C. has also been reporting at its highest level for five weeks.

Thirty people died from the flu in Maryland so far this year, and 62 deaths were reported in Virginia from the flu and pneumonia.

A total of three children have died from the flu so far this season in Maryland and Virginia, but no kids have reportedly died from the flu in D.C.
