PV Sindhu entered her second straight BWF World Championship final on Saturday after beating Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi.

The Indian badminton ace will now face Spain’s Carolina Marin in the final of the World Championship on Sunday.

In a hard-fought battle that lasted for 55 minutes, Sindhu defeated Yamaguchi 21-16, 24-22 in the semi-finals.

The victory also helped the 23-year-old to avenge her All England Open semi-final loss to Yamaguchi, earlier this year.

Yamaguchi, who eventually lost to Tai Tzu-ying in the final of All England Open, had registered a 19-21, 21-19, 21-18 over Sindhu in March 2018.

Meanwhile, Marin defeated China’s He Bingjiao in the first semi-final of the day.

The Spaniard dished out a clinical performance as she registered a 21-17, 21-10 win over the home favourite.

The Sunday final will be the 13th clash between Sindhu and Marin and a repeat of their famous 2016 Rio Olympics gold medal – which was won by the Spaniard.

Their head-to-head record currently stands at 6-6.

In their previous meeting, Sindhu defeated Marin 22-20, 21-19 in the Malaysia Open in June this year.

The world No 8 Marin has won the World Championship earlier twice in 2014 and 2015.
