AHMEDABAD — Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi kicked off a month-long campaign ahead of the December assembly elections by accusing the Congress of misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), at a massive rally in politically-important northern Mehsana district on Tuesday.

AHMEDABAD — Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi kicked off a month-long campaign ahead of the December assembly elections by accusing the Congress of misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), at a massive rally in politically-important northern Mehsana district on Tuesday.
Modi said Sonia Ganshi's party was misusing constitutional bodies against him for its own interest, adding that the CBI was hand-in-glove with the Congress.
Seeking a third term, the state's longest-serving chief minister, while addressing a gathering near Becharaji on the first day of his Vivekanand Yuva Vikas Yatra covering 125 of the 182 assembly constituencies, said the Congress had the habit of targeting constitutional authorities by creating an atmosphere of anger against those who did not toe its line.
Taunting the Congress, Modi said the party would contest the forthcoming polls along with the investigating agency and vowed 'to fight the coming polls on the plank of injustice meted out to Gujarat', appealing to the audience to work towards a 'Congress-free Gujarat' on the lines of '-free Gujarat' to wipe out the 'Congress cancer'.
In his first reaction on the indictment of his close confidant and former minister Amit Shah by the CBI in the 2006 Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case, Modi had even on Monday lashed out at the CBI accusing it of being hostile towards the state.
He challenged the federal government to compete with Gujarat in development rather than playing 'CBI games'. "Central agencies like CBI and Income Tax give hostile treatment to Gujarat. But no matter how much injustice the Delhi sultanate cause to Gujarat, it will not succeed in downing Gujarat," Modi said. This was the first reaction by the chief minister on the CBI chargesheet filed against Shah and 19 others including senior IPS officers for their alleged roles in the fake encounter of Tulsiram Prajapati. Shah and others have been charged for criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.
