KARACHI: Following an attack on Awami Tehreek’s (AT) ‘Mohabbat-e-Sindh’ rally which left 12 people dead on Tuesday evening, life in the old city areas remained paralysed on Wednesday, Geo News reported.
Additional forces of Police, Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC) were deployed in affected areas after which the situation came under control.

KARACHI: Following an attack on Awami Tehreek’s (AT) ‘Mohabbat-e-Sindh’ rally which left 12 people dead on Tuesday evening, life in the old city areas remained paralysed on Wednesday, Geo News reported.
Additional forces of Police, Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC) were deployed in affected areas after which the situation came under control.
Aerial firing was reported in different areas including Kharadar, Lee Market, Khajoor Bazaar and Napier Road. Some unknown miscreants also set a bus on fire near Lee Market.
Tension has gripped several other areas including Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Sachchal Goth, Safora Goth and Malir while normal activities have resumed in other parts of the city.
Sources from the Transport Ittehad said transport has been suspended in the affected areas only and was functioning in other areas. Petrol pumps and CNG filling stations are also open in majority of the areas.
Due to the volatile situation in the city, the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) also postponed the scheduled papers of ongoing Intermediate examination at all its exam centers. The postponed paper would now be held on May 30.
The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Hyderabad also postponed the scheduled Intermediate paper that would now be held on Saturday, May 26.
It is pertinent to mention that President Awami Tehreek Ayaz Latif Palijo on Tuesday called for a province-wide strike to be observed today.
The Sindhi nationalist leader said that call had been made to protest the killing of the innocent people who had gathered to express their reservations against the demands for a Mohajir province.
Palijo strongly condemned the incidents of firing that had resulted in deaths of several participants of the rally, but observed that their strike would be a peaceful one. He urged party activists “not to take law into their hands.”
Moreover, Karachi President of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Movement, Elahi Bux Bikak, also condemned the killings and demanded the government to arrest all those responsible for the crime.
