Washington, April 7: Five Indian Americans will be honored by the Connecticut chapter of the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) for their achievements and contributions at an awards banquet April 28.
They are Vivek Maru (social entrepreneur), Faquir Jain (applied science and research), Chandra Prasad (arts and letters), Neena Singh (community service) and Malika Bhandarkar (young person award). William “Vijay” Pinch will be honored with a Friend of India award at the banquet in Stamford.

Nikki Haley, South Carolina’s GOP governor and an Indian-American, responded graciously to a Time magazine editor’s question about whether she would give bigger tips to Sikh taxi drivers while in New York City. But on Friday her office revealed the governor’s true emotions.

Bollywood Badshah Shahrukh Khan would be adding another feather onto his cap when he would join the leagues of Sophia Coppola, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. Buzz is that he has been invited to give a lecture as a Chubb Fellow at the prestigious Yale University.

Governor Nikki Haley (R) said she wears heels as "ammunition" in the tough political climate of South Carolina.
"It's a blood sport," Haley said Tuesday on The Colbert Report. "I wear heels and it's not for a fashion statement, it's ammunition."

New Delhi: "Love Lies and Seeta", a low budget, urban romantic comedy, is set to hit theatres May 4.
Made at a shoestring budget of Rs.15 million, the movie narrates the story of three men in love with a girl named Seeta, who doesn't believe in love. It is directed by New York-based Indian origin filmmaker Chandra Pemmaraju.

An Indian American professor, Dr. Mohammad Jahangeer Warsi, has been selected as a 2011-2012 recipient of the James E. McLeod Faculty Recognition Award by the students of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Previously called the Faculty Awards, this year the ArtSci Council decided to rename the event in honor of one of their biggest supporters James E. McLeod.

A former employee of L&T InfoTech has joined a sexual discrimination lawsuit against the company seeking $100 million in compensation. In an amended court complaint, the employee has also alleged that a H1-B immigration visa fraud was "rampant" in the company.

Indian police arrested a doctor couple on Wednesday who allegedly locked up their 13-year-old maid while they went on holiday in a case that has spotlighted abuse of under-age domestic servants.
Police say the affluent couple, both medical doctors with thriving practices, locked the child in their flat in New Delhi last month with little food when they went to Thailand on vacation.
