Twenty percent of the spam mails that were sent out worldwide in the quarter ended March 31, 2012, originated in India, according to a study by security software firm Trend Micro. "The quarter's top spam-sending countries included India at 20 percent, Indonesia at 13 percent, South Korea at 12 percent and Russia at 10 percent," the report said.

Close to 30,000 taxis will remain off the roads in Kolkata city demanding a fare hike. The associations of taxi operators are demanding for more than 35 percent hike in fares.
Bimal Guha, the president of Bengal Taxi Association says, “The minimum fare should be raised to Rs 30 from the current Rs 22. The West Bengal government has last enhanced taxi-fare in August 2009.”

About 270 million people aged 15 years and older still remain illiterate in India, despite the country making major progress in cutting down the number of school drop-outs over the years, according to report.
According to the Opportunity for Action report by the International Youth Foundation (IYF), there are an estimated 270 million Indians aged 15 and older who are illiterate, while young women aged 15 to 24 are twice as likely as young men their age to be illiterate.
